Join ‘Movies@Hope’ at Hope Community Church in Low Fell.

What is it?

It’s just like a ‘book club’ but instead of reading a book ahead of time and then discussing it later, we do the same after watching a film. The group will meet every 2-3 months in someone’s home to have a meal and talk about movies. In the last year, several of us have enjoyed meeting online with a group of like-minded people, from the UK and abroad, to discuss movies. We have enjoyed this so much that we want to do the same here in Low Fell.

How does it work?

A group of 10-14 people, maybe more, will be led by people from Hope Community Church. We will discuss films that say something about life and the world that we live in. For example, Kenneth Branagh’s film ‘Belfast’ is on our list to show and discuss, but maybe a coming of age movie like ‘Ladybird,’ a ‘rom-com’ like ‘Notting Hill’ or ‘When Harry met Sally,’ or maybe ‘Gladiator’ is more your thing. You will have ideas about what films we could view and talk about.

Normally we will watch an agreed film before the meeting; most people will do this in their own homes. Most of the movies will be free to view but for recent films, there may be a small cost involved if it is pay per view. You may also not subscribe to the media platform where the film can be seen e.g. Netflix. To remove these cost and media obstacles, we will create two opportunities to see the film for free ahead of the club meeting. This will usually be at the home of one of the leaders. The group will communicate on a WhatsApp Group and by email.

We plan to have three movies and meetings in 2022. These provisional dates are Saturday 25th June, Saturday 24th September and Saturday 3rd December, all at 7.00 pm. The first meeting will be at Morris and Janet’s home and there will be vegan and vegetarian food options.

How can I join?

You don’t need to be a member of Hope Community Church to join this group. For more information, contact Morris, Janet and Elly by sending us a message from our contacts page.
