What's on in 2026?

This is a provisional progamme for 2026. The dates and movies may change, so the best way to keep up to date is to join our WhatsApp group.

We start at 7.30 pm for a one-hour discussion in a leaders home, which is preceded by a small meal or snacks from 7.00 pm. Sometimes we watch the movie before eating and discussion. These are marked on the programme.

What is Movies@Hope?

It’s like a book club but instead of reading a book ahead of time and discussing it later, we do the same after watching a film. We meet every 2-3 months in someone’s home to have a meal and discuss movies. This is our fifth year.

How does it work?

A group of 8-14 people, sometimes more, are led by people from Hope Community Church. We discuss films that say something about life and the world that we live in. In 2025 we discussed ‘Adolescence, ‘Zone of Interest,’ ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’  In the past we have looked at Kenneth Branagh’s memory of his childhood in ‘Belfast,’ but you might prefer a coming of age movie like ‘Ladybird,’ a ‘rom-com’ like ‘Notting Hill’ or ‘When Harry met Sally,’ or maybe ‘The Godfather Part 2’ is more your thing. We welcome ideas about what films we could view and talk about.

Normally we will watch an agreed film before the meeting; most people will do this in their homes. You may not subscribe to the media platform where the films can be seen, e.g. Netflix or Amazon Prime. To remove these costs and obstacles, particularly when we are looking at recent movies, we will create at least three opportunities to see the film for free ahead of the club meeting. This will usually be at the home of one of the leaders.

Group members communicate on a WhatsApp Group – ask if you want to be added to this group.

NOTE: Some of the movies deal with adult subjects. We highlight these ahead of the meeting but it is up to parents to research and decide whether a movie and its discussion is appropriate for their child. Each year we will have at least one meeting that is suitable for children, young people, or both, normally this will be the Christmas meeting.

How can I join?

You don’t need to be a member of Hope Community Church to join this group.
